Air Quality/Recess Monitoring

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have been and will be closely monitoring the air quality based on Environment Canada throughout the day.

Students will only participate in low risk activities during recess (no basketball/soccer games) times and if the air quality worsens (6 or higher on the scale) as the day progresses, outdoor recess times will be reduced or potentially moved to indoor completely.

Thank you.

June News

June is Pride Month!

The month of June is designated as PRIDE month in Waterloo region and across Ontario and on Thursday, June 1st, we will join other schools across our district in raising the Pride (Rainbow) flag outside of our school building. This month, and every month, WCDSB is committed to nurturing safe and inclusive learning environments where every student and every member of our community is welcomed, valued, and respected. We are called to see each other through God’s eyes – with sensitivity, compassion, and respect. We see God in one another – wonderfully made, just as we are. The Rainbow flag will fly for the month of June and affirms our Catholic faith and gospel values of love, inclusion, and a belief in the dignity of each person.

JUNE IS NATIONAL INDIGENOUS HISTORY MONTH

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, an opportunity to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Metis. It’s a time to honour the stories, achievements and resilience of the Indigenous Peoples, who have lived on this land since time immemorial and whose presence continues to impact our evolving country, Canada. At school this month, we will be highlighting inspirational Indigenous Canadians whose determination and commitment to their beliefs and passion have, and will continue to, improve Canada’s culture and social wellness.

EA/CYW Appreciation Day: June 2nd

The staff and students of St. Boniface would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to all our Educational Assistants and Child and Your Care Workers, as we celebrate them on June 2nd. Their support and dedication to our students and their commitment to the success of each child, helps our students reach their goals and be successful.  THANK YOU for everything that you do to make our schools places where our students have an opportunity to learn, grow, feel valued and achieve their full potential.

It truly takes a special person to do what you do AND we truly appreciate YOU!

REMINDER: FRIDAY, JUNE 2 IS A PA DAY – NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS

School Grounds Update

Dear St. Boniface families,

We would like to share with you the plans for the outside grounds for the school, four phases are outlined below: (See the attached School Map)

St. Boniface-Phase-2- Development Map

  1. Block A- Current school and hard surface play area
  2. Block B -Future school grass play area, and parking lot on north end.   Construction will take place July- Nov 2023.  With the hope the parking lot will be in use for sept. 2023
  3. Block C-  (The current grass play area) will be returned to the developer for future housing block- ONLY after we have established and are using the Block B grass area.  We have access to this block for all of 2023-2024.
  4. Block D – Current parking lot- will be returned to the township and will be future park land (we are not involved in that portion so do not have any timelines.

In the meantime, the fundraiser sub- committee for the Outdoor School Grounds are looking into freshening up the black top with some games and assisting with outdoor kits for all grade levels. Given the timelines for construction, we will be looking into developing a greening project which will include a plan to increase shading in the fall of 2023.
