Mass Times for St. Boniface Church

December 15 2022

Dear St. Boniface families:

As we journey through the season of Advent, we continue to prepare our hearts to welcome the Lord at
Christmas. Many of us will similarly prepare our homes to welcome loved ones over the holidays. Our
special holiday touches and traditions provide a warm welcome to the family and friends who will grace
our homes throughout this season. After two years where this was mostly not possible, this year’s
celebrations will undoubtedly take on a special significance.

Just as our homes have missed the presence of loved ones these past two years, our parish community
has truly missed the presence of the whole community gathered together in worship. When all the
members of our parish family are not gathered with us around the Lord’s Table, our community is
incomplete.

Please accept our warm and heartfelt invitation to join us for Mass this Christmas. If you have been
away from the parish community, whether for a short time or a long time, we warmly welcome you
home with open arms. If you attend Mass regularly, we thank you for your presence and we ask that
you please extend this invitation to family, friends and neighbors.

Please know that it is our desire to have you join us for the celebration of Mass, and we are praying that
every member of our community may accept our invitation to Come Home for Christmas! Be assured if
you are not able to attend this Christmas that our prayers and best thoughts are with you and your
families. The Christmas schedule is listed below.

Yours, in Christ,
Father Peter Meyer

Christmas Mass Times @ St. Boniface – Maryhill
Christmas Eve, December 24th @ 4:00 pm (Family Mass) and 9:00 pm
Christmas Day, December 25th @ 10:00 am

Advent – Week 2 Love

December 6, 2022

This morning we had our second Advent Liturgy in the chapel.

As we light the candle for the second week of Advent, the candle we call LOVE, sometimes called the “Bethlehem candle”or the Preparation candle, we are reminded that God kept his promise of a Savior, who would be born in Bethlehem.

One day John told them,

“I can wash you with water, but a very special person is coming who will baptize you with God’s spirit and wash away all your sins.” Matthew 3:11

Kiss and Drop Locations

December 1 2022

Just a friendly reminder to our families to park along Trowbridge street (not in front of driveways) and use the crosswalk at Starlight avenue to bring their children to school where an adult supervisor will be present at 8:55 am. Families can also use the kiss and drop zone in the parking lot at the end of Starlight avenue (just before the dead end), where students can walk along the pathway between the YMCA daycare playground and the chain link fence to the blacktop behind the school, where an adult supervisor will be present at 8:55 am. Please remember not to park in the spaces in front of the school, the daycare, or the designated handicap spaces.

Cars are not permitted in the school parking lot during bus loading times before and after school.

Please use extra caution when driving on the roads in our school zone to ensure the safety of our students and community.

Thank you very much for your cooperation on this important safety issue.

Advent Week 1 – Hope

November 28, 2022

This morning we had our first Advent Liturgy in the chapel. As we light the candle for the first week of Advent – HOPE, also called the “Prophecy Candle” in remembrance of the prophets, primarily Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ.

We Hope.
Hope in Jesus.
Hope that he will come again.

Important Update on CUPE Strike

November 20, 2022

Important Update on CUPE Strike

Earlier this evening, the Ontario government and education workers represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees – Ontario – (CUPE) reached a tentative contract agreement.

As a result, all WCDSB sites and programs will be operating tomorrow on their regular schedules.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked through this time of uncertainty.

Important Update on Potential CUPE Strike

November 16, 2022

Important Update on Potential CUPE Strike

As you may be aware, the Ontario government and education workers represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees – Ontario – (CUPE) continue to negotiate in hopes of reaching a deal that works for all.

On Wednesday, November 16th, CUPE served five days’ notice that if no contract is reached, their workers would be on strike effective Monday, November 21, 2022.

CUPE and the government have negotiation dates scheduled up to and including Sunday November 20, 2022.  It is our hope that a deal will be reached before Monday’s strike date and kids can come to school as normal.

The WCDSB has more than 1,200 staff represented by CUPE, in multiple different roles in schools.

As before — given such a large number of potentially absent staff, should a strike occur, it will not be possible to safely open and operate our schools.

If a strike occurs, and schools are closed to in-person attendance, we will move directly to synchronous remote learning.

Chromebooks will be available to students who need them in advance of any school closure.

In the event of a strike, St. Louis Adult Learning classes will continue to run, but St. Louis site offices will be closed.

WCDSB extended day programs will not be running.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure the learning of all students keeps moving forward.

We will keep you updated as further information becomes available.

WCDSB Schools to Re-open on Tuesday, November 8, 2022

November 7, 2022

As a result of this morning’s announcement by the Premier that the Ontario government will rescind Bill 28 and will return to collective bargaining with the Canadian Public Sector Employees Union – Ontario — (CUPE), education workers represented by CUPE have agreed to pause their job action and return to schools effective tomorrow – Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

This means all WCDSB schools (including St. Louis) will be open on November 8 for a regular day of classes.

All school transportation will be running as regularly scheduled.

All WCDSB extended day programs will be running on their regular schedules.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we transitioned into remote learning.

We pray that both sides will quickly reach a fair and just collective agreement that serves the interests of all.
